His first novel, The Wilmslow Comet, was published in 1999 to critical acclaim. It was soon optioned by Double Life Films, who asked Malcolm to adapt the book into a screenplay. His next screenplay, Vladimir, was optioned by Blue Heaven Productions, working with BAFTA-winning director Leslie Blair. Last year his controversial novel The Cure was published.
He is also the art critic for In Cheshire Magazine and a successful ghostwriter.
